Yi Clan Old House in Cheongwon-ri, Jinju
진주 청원리 이씨고가 · 晋陽淸源里李氏古家

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis house was built in 1880, the seventeenth year of Emperor Gojong, by Cheongho-gong. The main house (anchae, the women's living quarters) and the men's quarters (sarangchae) are arranged one behind the other in a straight, '一'-shaped line, while a barn and the outer gate building are arranged around the sarangchae to form a square, 'ㅁ'-shaped layout overall. The main house measures five bays across the front and three bays deep, with a hip-and-gable (paljak) roof that, seen from the side, forms the shape of the character 八 (eight). Of the five front bays, the wooden-floored hall (daecheong) occupies two bays, unusually large compared with the other spaces. Lattice doors were installed at the rear of the daecheong, extending it into a space used to store ritual implements and to hold ancestral rites. The house is a typical dwelling of a wealthy farming family of the southern region, well preserved with eight bays in the main house, five in the men's quarters, three in the storehouse, six in the barn and three in the gate building.
