Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krSinheungsa Temple was founded in 889, the third year of Queen Jindeok, by the state preceptor Beomil, who named it Jiheungsa Temple. In 1674, the fifteenth year of King Hyeonjong of Joseon, it was moved to its present site and renamed Gwangunsa Temple, later renamed again Unheungsa Temple. After being destroyed by fire in 1770, the forty-sixth year of King Yeongjo, it was rebuilt, and in 1821, the twenty-first year of King Sunjo, it was renamed Sinheungsa Temple. Seolseondang Hall and Simgeomdang Hall are both monks' quarters of Sinheungsa Temple. Seolseondang Hall is an L-shaped, timber-framed building with a tiled roof, single eaves and a hipped-and-gabled form, built in 1674, the fifteenth year of King Hyeonjong. Simgeomdang Hall, also known as Jinyeonggak Hall, is a quadrangular, timber-framed building with a tiled roof, single eaves and a hipped-and-gabled form, built in 1771, the forty-seventh year of King Yeongjo.
