Baekwajeong Pavilion was built in 1929 to console the departed souls of the court women said to have thrown themselves from the cliff to their deaths at the fall of Baekje. The name "Baekwajeong" is taken from a poem by the Chinese poet Su Dongpo. It stands on a rugged rock above the Baengmagang River, on the northern side of Busosanseong Fortress. The building has a hexagonal plan and a matching hexagonal-pyramid roof. A simple railing was installed around the edge of the wooden floor, and the ceiling is painted with various lotus-flower designs.
