Dolmens are the representative tomb type of the Bronze Age, also known as goindol, and are known to have mainly been the graves of a ruling class with economic wealth or political power. Korean dolmens are divided into the table type, in which four supporting stones form a stone chamber topped with a huge flat capstone, and the go-board type, in which a stone chamber is built underground on small supports beneath a capstone. This dolmen group is arranged in a single line on an alluvial terrace of the Seocheon stream, in front of Jumakgeori village, Gongsu-ri, Yanggu-eup, Yanggu-gun. It comprises eleven dolmens in total: five of the table type and six of the go-board type. They were first identified during a surface survey by Kangwon National University, and in 1987 three of the ten dolmens then found, which were badly damaged, were excavated. A further dolmen was newly discovered during a second excavation in 1992. The capstones range in size from the largest, 4.48 m long and 2.28 m wide, to the smallest, 1.43 m long and 1.19 m wide. Because this dolmen group had been continually damaged by fluctuations in the water level of Lake Paroho, it has now been relocated to the outdoor grounds of the Yanggu Prehistoric Museum.
