A gagyobi is a stele recording the process of bridge-building, set up after a bridge has been completed. The Gagyo Stele stands at a spot known as Madangbawi (Yard Rock) on Cheondeoksan Mountain, where Misan-myeon in Boryeong meets Oksan-myeon in Buyeo. In the past this spot likely served as a resting place along the mountain pass, but today the path itself is barely used and the site has become almost forgotten. The stele consists of an inscription carved into the top of a rock that lies flat and broad like the floor of a room. The surviving inscription is badly worn and difficult to read with certainty, but it appears originally to have consisted of about thirty characters carved in four lines. It is said that a monk from a temple in Doheung-ri, Misan-myeon, Boryeong, beyond this mountain pass, built a stone bridge here and then had this inscription carved.
