This is the tomb of Jo Sin, a scholar and loyal subject of the late Goryeo period. His original name was Sagyeom, but when the royal court fell into disorder under the regency of Sindon, he abandoned his official post and went into hiding at Imcheon in Buyeo, South Chungcheong Province, changing his name to Sin (愼). He served as Bongsang-daebu and Magistrate of Hoeyang, and was close with the leading scholars of his day, Yi Saek and Jeong Mong-ju. He was also a childhood tutor to King Taejong of Joseon, and after Taejong ascended the throne he treated Jo Sin's descendants generously, granting them official posts. The tombstone was first erected by his descendant Jo Sok, who gathered the surviving records, but as it had worn badly it was re-erected in the 10th year of King Yeongjo (1734). The present inscription was composed by his descendant Jo Choe-su and written in calligraphy by Jo Hyeon-myeong.
