Jeong Sang-yun House
정상윤가옥 · 丁相潤家屋

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThe house, built in 1938, consists of an anchae (main women's quarters), a sarangchae (men's reception quarters), a haengnangchae (servants' quarters), a gotganchae (storehouse) and a mungan-chae (gatehouse). The anchae has a front of five bays and a side of three bays, with a hip-and-gable roof that forms the shape of the character 八 (eight) when seen from the side. An attic loft runs the length of the ceiling, and the front and rear windows are fitted with comb-pattern lattice. The sarangchae stands in front of the anchae and likewise has a hip-and-gable roof. It bears a wooden signboard reading "Yeongchunheon", has an attic loft like the anchae, and features an L-shaped raised wooden-floored pavilion. The gotganchae runs north–south between the anchae and the sarangchae; it has a front of four bays and a side of one bay, with a gable roof that forms the shape of the character 人 (person) when seen from the side. The haengnangchae stands on the lower side of the gotganchae, measuring four bays across the front and one bay deep, also with a gable roof. The inner gate linking the anchae and sarangchae has a hip-and-gable roof, with a small door beside it; the top of this door is strikingly shaped into a natural oval. The mungan-chae has a front of three bays and a side of one bay, with a room on either side of the main gate, and a pavilion-like timber floor extending south from the rear of the wooden-floored hall gives a pleasantly airy feel.
