KOGL Type 4Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.kr

This house combines a main quarters, a men's quarters, a gate building and a storehouse building arranged in a square courtyard plan. The main quarters was built in 1918, and the other buildings around 1940; it is five-and-a-half bays wide and two bays deep, and faces south. The northern side of the wooden-floored hall is not left open but closed off to form a storage room for keeping household goods. The men's quarters faces east, three bays wide and two bays deep; one bay is given over to a broad wooden floor, with a veranda set in front of the two heated rooms. The storehouse building in the inner courtyard is supported by a single central pillar and earthen walls carrying the roof, a structure notable for having developed from the prototype of the ordinary Korean farmhouse. A representative dwelling of the modern-era middle-class farmhouse of western South Gyeongsang Province, it combines elements of the traditional farmhouse and the upper-class house in appropriately adapted and blended form, and preserves its original appearance relatively well.
