This pagoda stands behind the building on the side of the playground opposite the Hyeonseo branch school of Sangpyeong Elementary School. It originally stood in a paddy field about 200m east of this spot, and in 1965 it was moved here along with the nearby stone seated Vairocana Buddha of the Seorimsa temple site (a Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province Cultural Heritage Material), and the two have since been preserved together. The pagoda consists of a three-story body set on a single-tier base. Pillar shapes are carved into the corners of the base and of the body stones of the first and second stories. The roof stones, which slope steeply, look dull and heavy, but their four corners curve up lightly, easing the heavy impression; the undersides carry four tiers of eaves-support blocks on the first and second stories and three tiers on the third. At the top, a square noban (露盤), the stone base for the finial, is carved from the same block as the third-story roof stone. Because the body stones are narrow while the thick roof stones form a steep slope, the pagoda appears slender and tall overall, with little sense of stability. Judging from the form of the base and roof stones, it is presumed to have been erected in the late Goryeo period.
