Jo Hae-yeong House
조해영가옥 · 趙海英家屋

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThe house retains one main building, one detached wing and a gate quarters; originally, several more buildings seem to have stood alongside the main house. Inscriptions on the building suggest the main house was built in 1918, while the detached wing is thought to date from a little later, around 1922. Both the main house and the detached wing run lengthwise north to south, parallel to each other. The main house faces south, and the detached wing faces west. Apart from the area enclosed by the main house and the detached wing, there is almost no wall, and the surrounding land is mostly worked as a kitchen garden. Outside the wall to the east of the detached wing stands a stele praising the good governance of Kim Yuk (1580–1658), and two further steles lie laid flat inside the wall, suggesting that a cluster of commemorative steles once stood near the house.
