Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krDongsanjae is a jaesil, a ritual hall built to honour ancestors and to educate descendants, erected in 1913 by Yun Sun-hak of the Chirwon Yun clan, who held the minor official post of chambong in the late Joseon period. It was built to commemorate the scholarship and virtue of his grandfather Yun Sang-ui, a jinsa (classics licentiate) of Seonggyungwan (the National Confucian Academy), and his father Yun Yeong-dal, who held the rank of Tongjeongdaebu and served as Biseogamseung, and to cultivate future scholars. The complex consists of the ritual hall itself and a lower building containing the gate house, the lower building being joined to the gate house in an L shape. The ritual hall is a five-bay-wide, two-and-a-half-bay-deep building in the double-row (gyeopjip) style, with a toetgan (an extended eave bay) added only at the front. It is framed with a five-purlin structure, has a single eave using only common rafters, and is roofed in the hipped-and-gabled (paljak) style.
