When Yugyeongjae, a hall west of Changwon Hyanggyo (the local Confucian school) where promising students had been taught, was demolished, the Hoesan Gam clan took over the building and moved it to its present site in 1877, the fourteenth year of King Gojong. Gwansuljeong now stands within a military compound on the south-eastern foot of Bangnyongsan Mountain in Naeri-dong. In 1936 the shrine Samyeolsa was built behind Gwansuljeong to honour the brothers Gam Gyeong-in and Gam Gyeong-ryun, who were named Seonmu wonjong gongsin, a title awarded to meritorious subjects for their service during the Japanese invasions of Korea (1592–1598). A memorial rite performed by local Confucian scholars is still held there every year in the fourth month of the lunar calendar.
