These are a pair of muninseok, stone statues of civil officials placed before a tomb, standing at the burial ground of Kim Jeong, a civil official of the Goryeo dynasty. Kim Jeong served as inspector of Yanggwang Province and of Jeolla-do, and as Daehogun, during the reign of King Gongmin of Goryeo, and he was involved in the reform politics of Sindon in the late Goryeo period. When Sindon was expelled in 1371, the twentieth year of King Gongmin, Kim Jeong was exiled, and nothing is known of his later life; the only record is in the Sinjeung dongguk yeoji seungnam (an expanded edition of the Dongguk yeoji seungnam) and the Gwangju-mokji, a local gazetteer of Gwangju, which state that he was granted the title Jungdaegwang Gwangseong-gun. The two muninseok are carved in an identical style and are smaller in scale than most such statues. Each wears a low, unadorned official's cap; the eyes, nose and mouth are rendered in thin lines; and both hands hold a hol, the tablet that officials held when appearing before the king. In addition to the muninseok, the burial ground also contains a pair of mangjuseok, ornamental stone pillars, and Kim Jeong's gravestone, though apart from the muninseok all of these were erected recently.
