Standing beside a national highway in Sinbong-ri, Hwaseo-myeon, Sangju, Gyeongsangbuk-do, this is a bodhisattva image 230 cm tall, carved in relief on a single broad slab of granite. The head wears a three-faced crown, on which three small Buddha images and crown-ribbon ornaments are carved in relief. The face is heavily worn but has a full, rounded outline with well-proportioned features. The robe draped over both shoulders is rendered with simple, thickly carved folds. On the back of the body, a round head halo decorated with a flame pattern and a boat-shaped body halo are divided by a single thick line. Given its simple, sparsely ornamented and somewhat stiffened style of carving, the statue is presumed to have been made in the early Goryeo period.
