Geumseong Na Clan Samgangmun Gate, Jangseong
장성 금성나씨 삼강문 · 長城 錦城羅氏 三綱門

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis is a jeongnyeogak, a gate erected to commemorate exemplary loyalty, filial piety and fidelity, honouring the loyal subject Na Tong-seo, the filial son Na Bong-seo, the Seol clan of Okcheon — a woman honoured for her fidelity and the wife of Na Deok-jeon — and the Yi clan of Gongsan, wife of Na Jun-seo. The Seol clan of Okcheon nursed her bedridden husband with great devotion, and when his condition became critical she cut off her own finger and fed him the blood to help him survive the crisis; she also raised her three sons well. The eldest son, Na Bong-seo, held the degree of jinsa (licentiate) at Seonggyungwan and devoted himself to caring for his mother when she was ill. The second son, Na Tong-seo, held the military post of Yujin at Ganghwa and, during the Manchu invasion of 1636, showed great zeal in raising a volunteer militia. The third son's wife, the Yi clan of Gongsan, is said to have nursed her husband in illness just as her mother-in-law, the Seol clan, had done. The gate has three bays across the front and one bay in depth, with a hip-and-gable roof shaped like the Chinese character for "person" (人) when viewed from the side. Each bay is fitted with red lattice bars (hongsal) that close off the interior.
