Three-story Stone Pagoda in Mugok-ri, Sangju
상주 무곡리 삼층석탑 · 尙州 茂谷里 三層石塔

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis pagoda had collapsed at the site of an old temple whose name is unknown, until villagers discovered it in June 1982 and moved it to the foot of a nearby mountain. Although the first- and second-storey body stones of the pagoda's shaft had been lost, the remaining pieces were otherwise judged to be sufficient for a complete three-storey stone pagoda; when it was restored and re-erected in 1991, it was given the form of a two-tier base supporting a three-storey shaft. Pillar shapes are carved at each corner of the shaft's body stones. The thick roof stones curve upward at the four corners, and the underside of each bears four tiers of supporting eaves. Judging from the style of the surviving pieces, the pagoda is presumed to date from the Goryeo period.
