Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krBuilt in 1875, the twelfth year of Emperor Gojong of Joseon, this building was first used as a seodang (village school) and is now used as a hall for the elderly. It has five kan across the front and one kan to the side, and its hip-and-gable roof forms the shape of the Chinese character for "eight" (八) when viewed from the side. The floor combines ondol (underfloor heating) in the rooms with a raised wooden floor (umulmaru) in the daecheong, the open wooden-floored hall. In the garden in front of the building there is a pond and many trees, including pines and ginkgos.
