Noeryongjeong Pavilion, Hapcheon
합천 뇌룡정 · 雷龍亭

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krNoeryongjeong is a pavilion built in 1548 by the scholar Jo Sik (pen name Nammyeong, 1501–1572). At the age of 48, Jo Sik built Noeryongjeong and Gyebokdang in Hapcheon, where he studied and taught his disciples. The name Noeryongjeong is taken from a passage in the Zhuangzi: "remain still like a ritual effigy, then appear like a dragon when the moment comes; stay silent like a deep pool, then roar like thunder when the moment comes." The pavilion measures five kan across the front and two kan along the side, its roof built in the hipped-and-gabled (paljak) style, which forms the shape of the character "eight" (八) when viewed from the side.
