Epitaph Tablet Ri Three-story Stone Pagoda
지석리삼층석탑 · 支石里三層石塔

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis three-storey stone pagoda stands in Jiseok-ri. It originally stood on the hill behind the village, but during the Japanese colonial period Japanese residents attempted to take it away and had it carried this far; local residents' opposition prevented its removal, and so it came to rest at this spot. It consists of a single-tier base set on a foundation stone, with a three-storey pagoda body raised above it. Three ansang, shallow eye-shaped niche carvings, are cut into the base, and the body stones of the pagoda bear carvings imitating pillars. Compared with the first-storey body stone, the body stones of the second storey and above are sharply reduced in size, so that they end up lower in height than the roof stones above them. Judging from the ansang carvings on the base and the simplified composition of the pagoda, it is presumed to have been built during the Goryeo period.
