This pavilion stands above Mansutan in Donggye-myeon, Sunchang-gun; the date of its construction is unknown. Gwiam Yang Bae was a native of Namwon who devoted himself to scholarship from an early age and attained great learning. Having witnessed virtuous men fall victim to persecution in the Muo and Gapja literati purges, he withdrew into nature and lived forgotten by the world together with his younger brother Don. The royal court, hearing of his great learning and virtuous conduct, appointed him jangnyeong, a censorial post in the Office of the Inspector-General, but he did not take up the office. Even today, at Mansutan on the upper reaches of the Jeokseong River, the rocks where the two brothers used to fish still remain; they are called Baeam and Donam, or together Hyeongjeam, meaning Brothers' Rock. After his death, local Confucian scholars built Jigyesa Shrine to hold memorial rites for him, and his descendants, to honour his virtue, erected a pavilion here and named it Guamjeong, by which name it has been known to this day.
