Songjeong, on the eastern slope of Seonghwangsan Mountain, is where the 'Seven Eccentrics' (chilgwang) and 'Ten Worthies' (siphyeon) gathered to compose and recite poetry, taking nature as their companion. During the reign of King Gwanghaegun (r. 1608–1623), the king's tyranny reached its height and the world fell into turmoil. Those who abandoned their official posts, retired to the countryside and gathered at Songjeong to pass their days unattached to worldly affairs came to be known as the Seven Eccentrics and Ten Worthies. The Seven Eccentrics were Kim Dae-rip, Kim Eung-chang, Kim Gam, An Chi-jung, Song Min-go, Yi Sang-hyang and Yi Tak, and the Ten Worthies were Kim Eung-chan, Kim Gwang, An Chi-jung, Song Min-go, Yi Tak, Kim Gwan, Kim Ryeom, Kim Geup, Kim U-jik and Yang Mong-u.
