Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis is a shrine centred on Mogeun Yi Saek (1328–1396), enshrined together with Su-eun Kim Chung-han and Yangchon Gwon Geun (1352–1409). Yi Saek was a civil official and Neo-Confucian scholar of the late Goryeo period whose pen name was Mogeun; together with Poeun Jeong Mong-ju and Yaeun Gil Jae, he is counted as one of the Sameun, the three great Neo-Confucian scholars of the late Goryeo period. His writings include the Mogeun Mungo and the Mogeun Sigo. Gwon Geun was a civil official and scholar of the late Goryeo to early Joseon period whose pen name was Yangchon. He studied under Yi Saek and, together with Jeong Mong-ju and others, devoted himself to the study of Neo-Confucianism, making a great contribution to Confucian scholarship in the Joseon Dynasty. His writings include the forty-volume Yangchon-jip. Geumnamsa was originally built at the foot of Geomnamsan Mountain by local Confucian scholars in 1682, the eighth year of King Sukjong, but was relocated and rebuilt at its present site in 1988 because of the construction of the Hadong Dam.
