Cultural Heritage Material

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThese are vessels made around 1839, the fifth year of King Heonjong of Joseon, for use in the ancestral rites of Bak Ik. Thirty-two pieces were originally made, but eighteen survive today: six wine cups, two wine vessels, four square rice bowls, two round rice bowls, two candlesticks, and one incense container, or hyanghap, for holding incense. These vessels are unusual among ritual vessels, or jegi, in being made of bronze. They are still used every March at Singyeseowon Confucian Academy for the ancestral rites of Bak Ik.
