Cultural Heritage Material

Chwisongjeong is a sarangchae, a men's reception quarters, standing within the village; exactly when it was built and by whom is not known. It is a detached pavilion-style building three bays wide and three bays deep, with a hip-and-gable roof that, seen from the side, forms the shape of the character for 'eight' (八). From the left, it comprises one room and two bays of wooden floor. The room has a 'well' ceiling, so called because its lattice pattern resembles the character 井 (a well), while the floor area is finished with an exposed-rafter ceiling that leaves the timber framework visible above.
