Boryeong Ri Five-story Stone Pagoda
보령리오층석탑 · 保寧里五層石塔

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThe pagoda, which had been buried and abandoned at a former temple site on the western slope of Jindangsan Mountain, was excavated in 1974 and relocated and restored to its present site. It is made of granite and stands 350 cm tall; its date of construction is unknown. However, the pagoda shows almost no tapering between its storeys, giving it a heavy, squat impression, and its forms are simplified in a way that suggests a Goryeo-period style. The roughly dressed base has no relief carving of corner pillars or support pillars, only a relief-carved plinth, while the body stones have relief-carved corner pillars and a three-tiered plinth below them. The body stone and roof stone of the topmost, fifth storey are missing, so only four storeys survive today.
