Pyochungsa Temple is a subsidiary of Tongdosa Temple, housing Pyochungsadang Shrine, which was built to commemorate the loyalty and merit of Master Samyeong. Myeongbujeon Hall is also called Siwangjeon, because it enshrines the Ten Kings (Siwang), the judges of the underworld, or Jijangjeon Hall, because it is centred on an image of Jijang Bodhisattva. The Ten Kings are ten kings of hell who judge the sins of the dead; Yeomra Daewang, widely known to the public, is the fifth of these kings. Jijang Bodhisattva is a bodhisattva symbolising the Buddhist ideal of salvation, said to postpone becoming a Buddha until all beings are saved, so as to guide and enlighten, one by one, the sentient beings of the six realms of existence, from the heavens to hell.
