Standing Yecheon Waryong-dong Stone Buddha
예천와룡동석조여래입상 · 醴泉臥龍洞石造如來立像

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis statue lay abandoned, having lost its head, at the site of Geumsansa Temple in Pungyang-myeon, Yecheon-gun, Gyeongsangbuk-do; the present head was made anew at a later date. The whole body is so badly worn that the facial expression can no longer be made out. The figure wears a robe covering both shoulders, with U-shaped folds flowing down to the lower part. The pedestal originally consisted of three tiers — upper, middle and lower — but the middle tier is now missing, leaving only the upper and lower tiers stacked together. The surviving pedestal and the carving of the Buddha's shoulders show very refined workmanship, giving an overall sense of balanced form. Given this style, the statue is presumed to have been made during the Unified Silla period.
