An Amitabha Assembly Painting (Amita hoesangdo) depicts the scene of Amitabha Buddha preaching to an assembly of listeners in the Pure Land. In the Cheongnyeonam Amitabha Assembly Painting, Amitabha Buddha occupies the centre, flanked by the bodhisattvas Mahasthamaprapta (Daeseji) and Avalokitesvara (Gwanseeum); before them stand the Four Heavenly Kings, guardian deities of the Dharma, and behind them are arranged the Buddha's disciples and other members of the assembly. Dating from the late nineteenth century, in the late Joseon period, the painting's colouring and composition reflect well the style of Buddhist paintings of that era.
