This is a Buddha statue enshrined in Bogwangjeon Hall at Dongaksa Temple in Yecheon-eup, Yecheon-gun, Gyeongsangbuk-do; it was brought here from elsewhere. The face is rounded, with a baekho, a tuft of white hair symbolising a ray of light, between the eyebrows. The eyes are half closed, and the nose has been restored with plaster. The ears are long but do not reach the shoulders, and are carved close to the head. The neck bears three carved lines known as samdo, a conventional feature of Buddhist images, and the robe, draped over the left shoulder only, shows folds. The right hand grasps the index finger of the left hand, a hand gesture that identifies the statue as Vairocana Buddha. The lower body is broadly rendered, giving a sense of stability, but the shoulders are narrow, so it lacks an impression of grandeur. The whole statue is thickly coated with white powder, so its finer details cannot be made out.
