KOGL Type 1Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.kr

Unheungsa Temple is said to have been founded in 676, the 16th year of King Munmu of Silla, by the monk Uisang, and tradition holds that it served as a base for warrior-monks during the Japanese invasions of 1592–1598. The temple grounds contain several buildings, including the Daeungjeon Hall, the Yeongsanjeon Hall, Beomjongnu (the bell pavilion), Sansingak (the shrine to the mountain spirit), and monks' quarters. The Yeongsanjeon Hall was rebuilt during the reign of King Yeongjo of Joseon and has remained in its present form ever since.
