Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis statue is an image of Shakyamuni Buddha that has been kept at Geungnagam Hermitage for more than fifty years and has recently been newly gilded and enshrined here. It is seated cross-legged with the head bowed slightly forward; its neat body and settled posture show the characteristics of Buddhist statues of the late Joseon period. The face is almost square yet has a gentle expression, and the features are equally refined, with narrow, elongated eyes, a small, neat nose, a tightly closed mouth and a short chin. The robe covers both shoulders. On the basis of its stylistic features, the statue is thought to date from around the seventeenth century.
