Cheonggandang Hall was built to honour Kim Jeong-won (1655–1735), pen name Cheonggandang, a civil official of the mid-Joseon period. He was a man of deep filial piety and outstanding scholarship and virtue; his descendant Kim Tak-yeon built the hall in his memory, and it was also used as a place where descendants received instruction in scholarship. The building measures three bays across the front and two bays along the side, with a hipped-and-gabled (paljak) roof that, seen from the side, resembles the shape of the Chinese character for "eight" (八).
