Myeongbujeon Hall of Yongmunsa Temple, Namhae
KOGL Type 1Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.kr

Yongmunsa Temple was built in the mid-Joseon period. At first it had only the Tamjindang and Jeokmukdang halls, but considering this a better site than nearby Bogwangsa Temple on Geumsan Mountain, the monk Baekwoldang moved the Daeungjeon Hall and other buildings of Bogwangsa Temple here and renamed the temple Yongmunsa. The Myeongbujeon Hall is said to have been built after the Japanese invasions of 1592, though the exact date of construction is not known; it is also called Jijangjeon Hall or Siwangjeon Hall. Inside, the Ten Kings (siwang) are enshrined to the left and right, centred on the bodhisattva Jijang (Ksitigarbha). Jijang Bosal's role is to guide and transform all human beings, while the Ten Kings serve as judges of the underworld.
