Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krYeolmujeong, also known as sajeong, an archery pavilion, stood within the old walled town of Yeongam-eup. The Sa Po-gye, a mutual-aid society, was founded on this site in 1710 (the 36th year of King Sukjong), and after Yeolmujeong was rebuilt in 1880 (the 17th year of Emperor Gojong) the society continued to hold its gatherings here. During the March First Movement in the Japanese colonial period, the site was also used by local figures as a temporary meeting place. The building measures three kan across the front and two kan to the side, with a hip-and-gable roof whose roofline, seen from the side, forms the shape of the character 八 ("eight"); the attached archery ground covers an area of some 1,600 pyeong. The related materials preserved here amount to 24 volumes, including the Sa Po-gye Anjeolmok, the Sa Po-gye Wanui, the Sa Po-gye Jwamok and the Sa Po-gye Jungsuan. Yeolmujeong and the materials preserved there are valued as important local historical sources relating to the Yeongam region.
