Songyangsa Temple is a shrine holding the spirit tablets of several members of the Changnyeong Seong clan, among them the Goryeo-period civil official Seong Sadal (d. 1380), together with Seong Bu, Seong Yeowon and Seong Mujo. Seong Sadal passed the munkwa civil service examination in 1341, the second year of King Chunghye, and became Hallim Saseong, an official of the Hallimwon (Royal Academy). In 1352, the first year of King Gongmin, he was wrongfully imprisoned but soon reinstated. When the Red Turban rebels invaded in 1362 he guarded the king, and for suppressing the rebellion of Gim Yong he was named a First-Class Meritorious Subject. He was later appointed Military Commissioner of Gyoju-do in 1364, where he repelled Jurchen incursions, rose to the post of Daejehak (academician), and was invested as Buwongun (lord) of Changsan. He was also noted for his skill in prose and calligraphy, and after his death he received the posthumous title Munhyo. The shrine building has a front of three kan and a side of two kan, a kan being the bay between structural columns; its gabled roof, seen from the side, forms the shape of the character 人. The front and rear pillars are round, while the middle pillars are square and stand on roughly dressed granite blocks. Other buildings on the site include Gyeonghyeondang, set atop a flight of fourteen steps, and Pungnyongnu, a two-storey pavilion.
