Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krA yuheobi is a stele erected to pass down to later generations a site associated with a sage of the past, and thereby to commemorate him. This stele records the achievements of Seong Sammun (1418–1456), an early Joseon civil official and one of the Sa-yuksin, the "Six Martyred Ministers." In 1447, the twenty-ninth year of King Sejong, he placed first in a special civil service examination and was selected as a scholar of the Jiphyeonjeon (Hall of Worthies), where he received the king's deep favour. When the king created Hunminjeongeum, he, together with Jeong In-ji, Choe Hang, Bak Paeng-nyeon and others, made a great contribution to its promulgation. When Suyang Daegun seized the throne from his young nephew King Danjong, Seong Sammun, together with Bak Paeng-nyeon, Yu Eung-bu, Heo Jo, Yi Gae and others, plotted to restore Danjong to the throne; the plot was discovered, and he was put to death. As a leading scholar-official of the Joseon period noted for his loyalty and integrity, he is still revered by many people today. In 1668, the ninth year of King Hyeonjong of Joseon, a stele was erected at this, his birthplace; it is now preserved beneath a protective pavilion. The inscription was composed by Song Si-yeol and written in the calligraphy of Kim Jin-sang.
