이훈동정원 · 李勳東庭園

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis garden was built in the 1930s by the Japanese national Uchitani Manpei, laid out in the manner of a Korean seowon (Confucian academy) garden. It consists of an entrance garden, an inner courtyard garden, the Imcheon garden, and a rear garden, with Japanese-style stone lanterns and a Japanese-style stone pagoda placed throughout, giving the whole the strong flavour of a Japanese garden. In the entrance garden are planted Chinese juniper, windmill palm, spotted laurel, plum trees, silver-margined spindle tree, Chinese quince, crape myrtle and Satsuki azalea, among others. The inner courtyard garden has a lawned yard planted with Machilus, Ternstroemia and ring-cupped oak. In the Imcheon garden, Himalayan cedar, yew, Japanese cedar, Hinoki cypress, ring-cupped oak, tamarisk and plum trees are planted densely, with a narrow stream running through the grove. The rear garden is centred on a flat lawn atop a hillside, with various trees planted both above and below it.
