Sujaejeong Pavilion
수재정 · 水哉亭

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krSujaejeong is said to have been the villa of Jeong Geuk-hu (1577–1658), a scholar of the mid-Joseon period. It was built in 1620, the 12th year of King Gwanghaegun of Joseon, and rebuilt in 1728, the fourth year of King Yeongjo. The pavilion, of three bays, stands on a high stone platform; its roof is a gabled roof that, seen from the side, forms the shape of the character 人. The central bay has a wooden floor with rooms on either side, and a narrow veranda with a railing runs across the whole front of the building, giving it the form of an elevated pavilion. The building's construction combines mid- and late-Joseon stylistic features, showing that it underwent repairs on several occasions; the building as it now stands largely reflects the style of the reign of King Yeongjo of Joseon (r. 1724–1776).
