합천 덕암정사 · 陜川 德巖精舍

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis building was erected for the education of later generations and the study of Neo-Confucianism. Kwon Geuk-gyeong, of the Andong Kwon clan, began it around 1650, the first year of King Hyojong, as a thatched-roof house named 'Jijokdang' in a valley behind Chang-ri village; it was later enlarged in 1930 and moved within Chang-ri village, and in 1987 it was relocated and rebuilt at its present site because of the construction of the Hapcheon Dam. The building measures five kan across the front and two kan along the side, and its roof is a hipped-and-gabled paljak roof which, seen from the side, forms the shape of the character 八 ('eight').
