This memorial gate was built to honour the loyalty, chastity and filial devotion shown by Kim Jun of the Eonyang Kim clan, together with his wife and son. The building is a gable-roofed structure with double eaves, three bays wide and one bay deep, its gable ends covered with wind boards. It stands on round plinth stones of varying height, topped by round columns that form a bracket set of the ikgong (wing-shaped bracket) type. At the age of 24, in 1605, the 38th year of King Seonjo's reign, Kim Jun passed the military examination and went on to serve as magistrate of Gyo-dong. During the Jeongmyo War (the Manchu invasion of 1627), while serving as magistrate of Anju, he died defending Anju Fortress. Kim Jun's son, Kim Yu-seong, likewise gave his life for the country, and Kim Jun's wife, Lady Kim, took her own life. In 1632, the 10th year of King Injo's reign, the court praised this single household for embodying all three bonds - loyalty, filial piety and chastity - and, to honour their loyal, virtuous and filial conduct, ordered a state funeral and had this memorial gate erected. The gate standing today has been recently restored.
