A bell is one of the implements used at a temple, employed to mark the time, announce rituals, or convey the Buddha's teachings. Anjeogam is said to have been one of eighty-nine hermitages that once stood in the valley of Naewonsa Temple; closed at the time Naewonsa Temple was founded, it was rebuilt by the Venerable Yeonghun in 1646 (the twenty-fourth year of King Injo of Joseon) and is relatively well preserved. On the shoulder of this bell the character beom is carved within a circle, and around the upper part of the body there were originally nine protruding nipple-shaped bosses, known as yudu, of which two are now broken.
