Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis pavilion was built by Oh Ik (pen name Ujae, 1591-1671), who is said to have settled here after failing the state civil service examination on several occasions. The exact date of construction is unknown, but it is thought to date from around 1640-1650, after the Byeongja War, the Manchu invasion of 1636-37. The building is three bays wide and two bays deep, built directly on a natural rock outcrop. A wooden floor occupies the centre, flanked by a room on each side, with a railing around the perimeter so that the pond below can be viewed. The floor of the rooms has deteriorated, leaving the bare earth beneath exposed.
