Manhyujeong Pavilion
KOGL Type 4Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.kr

This pavilion was built by Bobaekdang Kim Gye-haeng (1431-1517) in his later years as a place for reading and contemplation. Kim Gye-haeng was known as an upright and incorruptible official of the early Joseon period, and he left behind the teaching, "If my house holds a treasure, it is purity and integrity alone." The pavilion measures three kan (bays) across the front and two kan along the side; the front is left open in the form of a wooden floor so that the natural scenery can be enjoyed, while ondol (heated-floor) rooms on either side were used as a space for study. Built in the early 16th century, the pavilion shows a beauty in harmony with its natural surroundings, and the waterfall that drops just below it is especially spectacular. On the rock beneath the pavilion, large characters reading 寶白堂晩休亭泉石 (Bobaekdang Manhyujeong Cheonseok) are carved.
