Changseok Shrine, located within Chehwadang Hall, is dedicated to Yi Jun (pen name Changseok, 1560–1635). Yi Jun was a civil official of the mid-Joseon period who, during the Japanese invasions of Korea (1592–1598), raised a civilian militia together with his elder brother, Yi Jeon (pen name Wolgan), to resist the Japanese invaders. The term chehwa, meaning "brothers," is said to symbolise the close bond between the two siblings. Changseok Shrine was originally built elsewhere in 1656, the seventh year of King Hyojong, and was relocated in 1771, the forty-seventh year of King Yeongjo, to its present site at Chehwadang, where Yi Jeon had pursued his scholarly studies in his later years. It shares the same structural form as the shrine dedicated to Yi Jeon, with wind-blocking boards (pungpan) fitted at both gable ends.
