The exact nature of this stele is not known, but part of the content of its inscription suggests it is connected with Buddhism. It is shaped like a lightly dressed natural stone pillar, with characters carved only on the front face; these are badly worn, making the overall content difficult to make out. According to the inscription, the stele was erected in 786, the second year of King Wonseong of Unified Silla. It is the oldest inscribed stele found in the South Jeolla region. It was discovered when a village lane was being cleared, and is now kept at the house of Choi Jeong-ho.
