Seokgok-ri Maitreya Buddha
석곡리미륵불 · 石谷里彌勒佛

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis standing bodhisattva, found at the former temple site in Seokgok-ri, Deoksan-myeon, Yesan-gun, Chungcheongnam-do, is preserved in the village hall together with the three-story stone pagoda discovered alongside it. The statue stands facing the pagoda, with its lower section buried in the ground. The crown of the head is flat, and the ears are long but do not reach the shoulders. The neck bears three incised lines (samdo), though these are not clearly carved. The left hand is raised to chest height with the fingers extended, and the robe, which wraps both shoulders and falls in long folds, extends down to the feet. According to tradition, a temple stood about 150 m east of the present village hall some 300 years ago, but it burned down during a time of war.
