Byeolseo in Ugyu-dong, Yangsan is a pavilion that U Gyu-dong built in 1920, the year after the March First Movement, as a separate retreat, like a villa, in Eogok-ri, Yangsan. U Gyu-dong was a figure of the late Joseon period who served as Dosa of the Uigeumbu, the royal investigation bureau, and held the rank of Tongjeong-daebu, a senior third-rank title. The retreat contains two pavilions, Sohanjeong and Sesimdang. On the four walls of Sesimdang hang plaques inscribed with the names Sohanjeong, Ssangcheonggak, Sesimdang, Sinseonam, Sammicheon, Dowon and Jugwon. Bamboo, crape myrtle, Japanese apricot and pagoda trees have been planted around the pavilions, and amid the beautiful natural scenery through which a stream flows, it is unusual that twelve names, each based on Taoist ideas of immortality, have been given to different spots.
