This pavilion is said to have been first built in 1451, the first year of King Munjong, by Lord Bae Hwan. It was rebuilt in 1813, the thirteenth year of King Sunjo of Joseon, but later fell into disrepair and was restored again in 1881, the eighteenth year of Emperor Gojong, and once more in 1955. The pavilion retains the general form typical of pavilions in the Andong region, but is distinctive in that its lower pillars (nuhaju, the pillars supporting the raised floor) are shorter than its upper pillars (nusangju, the pillars above the floor). This is thought to have been a deliberate modification made during the most recent restoration.
