영양가천정 · 英陽佳川亭

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis pavilion was built in 1794, the 18th year of King Jeongjo of Joseon, by Kim Chan-gu (1732–1806), pen name Gacheon. It was originally named 'Samchindang,' expressing the intention of devoting oneself to filial piety and respect and passing that devotion on to later generations, but in 1907 his descendants rebuilt the building and renamed it 'Gacheonjeong.' The building measures three kan (bays) across the front and two kan on the side, and its roof is a hipped-and-gabled roof, shaped like the Chinese character for eight (八) when viewed from the side. Yeongyang Gacheonjeong Pavilion is a building of great value, offering a glimpse into the Confucian thinking of our ancestors.
