Nammun-ri Five-story Stone Pagoda
KOGL Type 1Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.kr

This pagoda stands in Nammun-ri village, set on a broad stone platform. Until a few years ago, roof-tile fragments were found in the surrounding area, and a small stone Buddha was discovered in front of a nearby house, indicating that this was once the site of a temple. Largely undamaged, the pagoda has a single-tier foundation topped by a five-story body. The foundation has two tall tiers of supporting blocks where the stone above rests. Each roof stone of the body has four tiers of eaves-supports carved into its underside, and the straight line of the eaves curves gently upward at both ends. At the top, a tall finial has been placed on a square base stone to complete the pagoda. Because the reduction in size from story to story is not great, the pagoda gives a slender, elongated impression. Judging from its overall form, it is presumed to be a work of the late Goryeo period.
